Founded in London in 1913 and with its headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, Aston Martin is very much an English car to be proud of.
Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford are the men responsible for founding the company, following a short stint where the pair sold cars made by Singer from their premises in Callow Street in London. Lionel Martin sometimes raced special editions at Aston HIll near Aston Clinton, and it was after this that the pair agreed to start making their own automobiles.
The very first Aston Martin car produced was done by Martin simply fitting a four-cylinder Coventry-Simplex engine to a 1908 Isotta-Fraschini chassisThe company has changed ownership many times, and was once in the hands of Ford, who oversaw the release of the very successful DB series. Now, the iconic British brand is back in British hands, and has a fiercely passionate and supportive group of followers.
Not only is Aston Martin the choice of car for the world's favourite fictional secret agent, James Bond, but it's also an object of desire for car experts across the world.
