The brand of cars known as Chevrolet, and often colloquially referred to as just 'Chevy' (formal name Chevrolet Division of General Motors LLC), is owned by North American giants General Motors, and was founded on 3rd November 1911 by a man named Louis Chevrolet. It wasn't until 1918 that GM Motors took over.
In 2011, Chevrolet was the brand with the highest car and truck sales in the entire United States, and since 1921 the company has manufactured more than 200 million automobiles. In fact there are so many Chevrolet's on planet Earth that it has been estimated that you can find Chevrolet cars on two thirds of the world's roads. And apparently, if you were to line up all Chevys purchased in 2010 bumper to bumper, they'd cover more than half of the Earth's circumference!
Obviously, Chevrolet's highest vehicle sales occur in the US, taking 36.9% of the market share there, but they also sell extremely well in Brazil and China, where they cover 13.3% and 12.5% of their respective market shares. The UK doesn't even come in the top 10 Chevrolet Sales markets across the world. Other countries which do however include India, Uzbekistan and Columbia.
