Part of the PSA Peugeot Citroen Group, which is the second largest car manufacturing conglomerate in Europe (after Volkswagen Group), Citroen is a French company founded in 1919 by French industrialist André-Gustave Citroën.
Before World War I, André-Gustave Citroën build armaments for the French army, but after the war had ended he had a factory making no products. It wasn't until 1919 that the company started to produce cars, the first one being the Citroen Type A, which was designed by Jules Salomon.
Andre Citroen was a marketing expert, and he produced the world's largest ever advertising sign, using the Eiffel Tower to display the company's name for 9 years from 1925-1934.
Citroen was the first company outside of the US to mass-produce cars, and within 8 years it had become the 4th biggest car manufacturer in the world. Citroen than earned itself a reputation for innovation and revolutionary engineering, which the company reflects in it's slogan “Créative Technologie”.
