Commonly known as Dodge, but formally known as Dodge Division of Chrysler Group LLC, is a popular American brand of automobiles, producing minivans, trucks, sports utility vehicles and coupes.
Found by brothers John Francis Dodge and Horace Elgin Dodge in 1900 as Dodge Brothers Company, didn't begin producing complete automobiles until 1915, as it originally started out selling just parts and assemblies for automobile makers in Detroit, USA.
The sudden death of the brothers in 1920 lead to the sale of the company to Dillan, Read & Co five years later, and then to Chrysler in 1928 who remain the current owners.
The famous and iconic Dodge Viper sports car is now known as the SRT Viper, following a change in 2013. The car was initially conceived back in 1988 but production of the vehicle didn't start until in 1991.
Between the years of 1942 and 1945, parent company Chrysler was a key producer of World War II materials, and Dodge specifically gained a reputation among soldiers and civilians of producing reliable and quality products such as military trucks and ambulances.
