English automaker The Morgan Motor Company, was founded by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan in 1910 who ran the company until his death in 1959.
Morgan initially produced only three-wheeled vehicles up until the end of the World War II when they moved on to include four-wheeled cars into their production line too.
Morgan is a relatively small automaker. It employs just 163 people housed in its small base in Malvern Link, Worcestershire, and it 2007 its production output for the year was just 640 cars, so they're not easy to find. Unlike most other automobile manufacturers today, all of Morgan's cars are made my hand, not machine, and the waiting list to purchase a hand-made Morgan is around 2 years! In the past, people have been known to have had to wait for 10 years on the same waiting list, however.
During the 1950's and 1960's, 85% of all production was sold in the US. However, that all changed in 1971 with the first of the US safety and emission regulations.
Morgan's cars (affectionately known as “Moggies” among their enthusiasts) generally have a very traditional design, but despite this they have always had a 'sporty' feel and a sports-car performance, which is down to the very low weight of the cars.
