Officially known as Scania Aktiebolag but more commonly referred to as Scania AB or simply Scania, the Swedish car manufacturer was founded in 1891 in Sodertalje in Sweden where the company still houses its headquarters.
The company employs over 38,500 people, and the company's production output is spread wide across the globe, with production centres in Holland, South America, Poland, Russia, and in other European countries such as Sweden and France. What's more, they also have 10 factories in Africa and Asia.
German car maker Volkswagen AG are currently the biggest stakeholders in Scania, with a 71% equity share. Volkswagen achieved this through purchases the shares then owned by Volvo. Volvo themselves had previously tried to take over Scania in 1999, but their take over was aborted after the EU vetoed the idea, citing that the deal would have created a company with nearly 100% of the market share in the markets of the Nordic countries.
