First founded in 1909 as Suzuki Loom Works, the Suzuki Motor Corporation is a Japanese corporation which not only specialises in producing cars, but also a variety of other vehicles including motorcycles, four-wheeled drive cars, all-terrain vehicles, wheelchairs and engines of many kinds. In 2011, the company was named the world's 10th largest automobile manufacturer in terms of production figures.
The manufacturer employs more than 45,000 people and has 35 major production plants in 23 countries worldwide. In 2010, the company reached an impressive aggregate total number of sales in Japan, when they reached 20 million units, and in that same year the Volkswagen Group completed the purchase of the company to become controlling owners.
As well as being highly successful in the company's native Japan, Suzuki also boast extremely high sales figures in India, which is their second biggest market. They first entered the Indian market in the 1980s and haven't looked back since.
