At one stage TVR, the independent British sports car maker, was the world's 3rd biggest sports car manufacturer. Their product range specialises in coupes and convertibles, and most of their products use an in-house straight-6 cylinder engine. The company is well known for producing small cars which despite their petite size, still have powerful engines.
Before 2006, TVR had its headquarters in the popular seaside resort town of Blackpool in Lancashire, but since then the company has split into separate subsidiaries and moved away.
Between the years on 2004 and 2012, TVR was owned by Russian banker Nikolay Smolensky, and it was he that announced in July 2012 that building a new TVR model was going to make financial sense, therefore effectively ending TVR's period as an automaker. In June 2013, British buyer Les Edgar acquired the company, and there have since been various statements on the official website which hint and point towards a possible return to car manufacturing for the company.
